Well it is that time of year, where we get to celebrate our Lord’s advent by giving gifts to one another. What fun!
Do you have a Happy Homemaker in your life? Maybe your wife, sister, or daughter? Well, I have got you covered on gift ideas. Here is a list of a few of my favorite things… So take a look if you’re in need of inspiration. And if you’re a Christian mom reading this, then please send this link to your husband or family to give them ideas! 🙂
I’ve selected these items specifically for Christmas 2019, but check out my new “Shop” page for more general recommendations.
These links are affiliate links, read my full disclosure here. But all opinions are my own and I have been very careful to only share things that are truly my favorite or have helped me.
Bible Study
There are always so many Bible study tools out there, it’s hard to know what is the best. Here are some things that I have found useful.
Journals — I have really loved having just some simple journals to take notes and keep my Bible study time straight. These do not have lines or anything on the inside, just clean white pages to fill with your thoughts.
NASB Bible — This is the translation and Bible that I use every day. It is simple and straightforward without many notes. It does have reference verses in the center column, but that is all. There is a little bit of margin for writing small notes.
Sakura Micron Pens — These pens are the best for writing in your Bible. They will not bleed through onion skin pages and they come in lots of different colors. I like to use them to underline verses that I am studying or to write short notes for later.
Books
Labor with Hope — I am currently reading this book and it is so encouraging! Gloria Furman challenges you to take a biblical look at labor and what the Bible has to say about it. I did not know there was so much theology in having children.
ESV Illuminated Scripture Journal — My small group leader got me the Romans Scripture journal and I love it! It has the Scripture in it along with sections where you can write and take notes on what you’re learning. And they are just beautiful!
A Gospel Primer — I know I have talked about this book a lot, but it is the best! There is so much good in studying the Gospel every day and this book helps you do just that. Milton Vincent takes you through the Gospel in a different way for each chapter of the book. And the chapters are short and sweet, perfect for a quick morning devotional.
Beholding and Becoming — Ruch Chou Simons does a great job of making the ordinary extraordinary… using everything we do to give God glory. I am enjoying listening to this book on audio… but the hardback is just stunning!
Risen Motherhood — This is actually on my list still for Christmas, so I have not read it. But I absolutely love Emily and Laura’s podcast. They have such good insights about motherhood and the Gospel, which they share in their podcast and in this book.
Fun Stuff
Every mom needs to have a little fun, right? These are just two things that I have found to bring a little fun to mom life!
Happy Homemaker Raglan T-Shirt — Striving to be a happy homemaker is a lot of work! So why not represent your mission on your t-shirt? I designed this shirt with Christian moms in mind. They work so hard to bring God the glory in their home and to be happy while they do it. I recommend sizing up as these shirts run small. Check out my other t-shirt designs on my “Shop” page!
Sakura Brush Pens — Calligraphy can be intimidating, but these brush pens really make it a breeze. They are so easy and fun to write with. The colors are rich, making them a perfect doodling tool.
Black Heels — what mom doesn’t need a pair of good heels? I do not get to wear them often, but when I do, it makes it all that more fun! This pair is the most comfortable pair of heels I’ve ever worn. I used to wear them almost everyday when I had an office job. They are classy and super cute with the Mary-Jane-style strap.
Kitchen Gadgets
Part of being a happy homemaker is that you are working in the kitchen to prepare food for your family. There are so many ways to save time and energy in the kitchen, here are three of my favorite kitchen gadgets that I’ve found to be helpful.
Garlic Press — If you do not have one of these, you are wasting so much time but peeling and crushing your own garlic. The press does it all for you… so worth it. And you can just throw it in the dishwasher when you’re done.
Pie Baking Ring — Ever bake a pie and have the edges go brown before the pie is done? This used to happen to me all the time, but now I just slip this little ring on the pie and it keeps the edges from getting to brown. (You may want to get this before Thanksgiving next week!)
Tap Diffuser — This thing is a total game-changer when it comes to washing the dishes. It turns my little apartment sink into an awesome sprayer. It is so much easier to wash my pots and pans with this and get every part clean. I highly recommend it!
Bonus!
Okay, one last item! I have always loved using planners to keep things organized and keep my thoughts all together in one place. So, for 2020, I am planning (haha) to use this Joni and Friends Anniversary Edition Planner. Joni and Friends is a non-profit that serves people with disabilities worldwide. Their planner is absolutely beautiful! I cannot wait to use it this next year. The floral artwork is by Joni Eareckson Tada whom I have looked up to and learned so much from. And each page of the planner is so well thought out… There are month pages, prayer request pages, activity ideas, and more! Check it out here.
So there is the list of my favorite things for Christmas. What would you like for Christmas this year? Let me know!
