START — and Restart

START — and Restart

September 23, 2019

First day of Fall! A brand-new season, a brand-new start.

There are so many times in life that I want to start over anew. Whether it’s a word I shouldn’t have said, a turn I regret taking, or a service I neglected, I would rather go back and change it. And if I could, start over and try again.

This is true as a mom too. Maybe I snapped at a mom at play group, I wasn’t consistent in disciplining Aletheia during the day, I resented my husband because he didn’t do things the way I would’ve… all things that I would rather go back and change if I could. Where’s the restart button?

I am reminded that my ultimate restart was when Jesus made me new. He’s made a way for all my “restarts” to be possible, because I am washed completely clean of my sin by His blood on the cross.

“Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow.” Isaiah 1:18

We had no hope, no respite, no future. But Jesus changed all of that. He bore our punishment in His death on the cross so that we could start over.

But as His children we actually can restart again and again by confessing our sins. When we’ve done wrong, made those mistakes and bad choices, then confess, He will always forgive (1 John 1:9).

So run to the cross when you’ve fallen in sin, when you’ve snapped, murmured, gossiped, and lied. Christ is there with open arms, ready to forgive because He has paid the price.

As a mom, pray in those moments when you are overcome with regret or guilt for the choices you’ve made and things you’ve done. Confess your wrongs before the Lord, let Him wash you clean so that you can begin again, have a fresh new start.

And friends, sometimes we need a restart every day, every hour even. And that’s okay! Let His grace be enough for all your regrets. He has forgiven all your sins, every single one.

So, as a new season starts on the calendar I am reminded of, and ever so grateful for, the greatest start ever, salvation. And that we are able to restart, be washed clean, by His grace and mercy every day.

How are you feeling about the new season?
