Desserts that can be made ahead are most definitely my favorite. I recently made these maple pecan bars for a Sunday afternoon dessert and they’re too good not to share! I needed something autumnal and I had the opportunity to stop by my favorite store to buy nuts, Lidl, so it was the perfect combination for a scrumptious dessert.
Maple Pecan Squares
Ingredients:
Shortcrust:
2 cups all purpose flour
2 tbsp. granulated sugar
1 cup cold butter, cubed
Filling:
3 large eggs
1.5 cups packed brown sugar
½ cup maple syrup
3/4 cup melted butter
1 tbsp. white vinegar
2 cups chopped pecans
Method:
Mix together the flour and sugar, then cut in the butter. I prefer to do this with my hands, but a pastry knife works just as well. Pack this firmly into a 9×13 pan and press flat with your hands. Bake in the oven at 350 for 20 minutes or until set and very slightly brown.
Mix together the rest of the ingredients and pour over the top of your baked short crust. Return to oven and bake for 25 minutes or until the edges are set, the middle should still jiggle. Remove from oven and let cool completely before serving.
We enjoyed ours with a cup of black tea!
How can this recipe work for Sunday afternoon lunch?
Make some time on Saturday to put together this simple recipe so that your dessert is taken care of for Sunday afternoon. It only takes about an hour to prepare and you can even do the crust first and wait a few hours before baking the filling again. So it’s flexible while you are doing other things on a Saturday.
