Ingredients:
2 ripe bananas, frozen
1 1/2 cups whole milk (preferably organic)
2 heaping tablespoons of creamy nut butter (peanut or almond work well)
Equipment needed:
Blender
Instructions:
The Bananas
The most important part of this smoothie is that you use previously frozen bananas. Not only do the bananas add the creaminess needed, but by freezing them ahead of time, you will not need to use ice in your smoothie.
So, before you make your smoothie, freeze your bananas. The easiest way to do this is to freeze whole bunch of bananas at once. Break them in half and line them on a cookie sheet. Once they are frozen solid, transfer them to a gallon bag for future storage. You want to freeze them separately on the cookie sheet so that they do not stick together when placed in the bag. Then you can just pull out however many halves you need for your recipe.
Measure into Blender
Take the frozen bananas and place them in the blender. Add the one and a half cups of milk to the blender, then add the two heaping tablespoons of nut butter. You can use any kind of nut butter, almond and peanut work well. Just be sure that it is creamy nut butter, crunchy would make for a crunchy smoothie… You can also totally omit this for just a plain banana smoothie.
Blend all the ingredients on high for 1 minute or until smooth. This will depend on your blender. Just make sure there are no chunks of banana left in the blender… you don’t want that stuck in your straw!
Serve and Enjoy!
Once all the items have been smoothly blended together your sweet treat is complete! Pour into your cup of choice, mine is a mason jar with a lid and straw, and enjoy!
This smoothie recipe is sugar free, the bananas are all the sweetener you need. I love that I can give it to my toddler as an afternoon snack with no sugar. She definitely still enjoys it!
